PIE'ED: Day 1 (I can identify and justify the author's purpose in a text.)

Last month we learned about author's purpose through the acronym PIE. You copied this anchor chart in your mini-lesson's and we worked on a variety of activities



















We are going to extend our knowledge of author's purpose and from this point forward use the acronym PIE'ED. That's right- we are moving to the advanced level!

Think of examples for each of the categories as you read through them.



Copy this in your Readers notebook. You will watch the  video below  and complete 1-9.  For each of the 9 videos, you will decide if the author's purpose is to: persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe. Then I want you to justify your reasoning. What evidence was given to you in the clip to make you believe this? The more you justify, the more complete your answer is

Review clips and authors purpose for each.  Here are the posters for Author's Purpose... Today you are going to write your own passages. That's right, You are going to write a short paragraph passage (just like the pie ones) for each of the five types of author's purpose. I would like you to stick to the same topic (our example topic yesterday was pie) so you are able to see how an author adapts his/her writing to suit the purpose they are writing for.   First:  You are going to write your passages in your  Reader's Notebook.
